Boredom, boredom, Republican National Convention, boredom, boredom, the perfect remedy: Son of the Beach. SOTB is a satire on Baywatch, and i must admit, the quality is horrible, but it is purposefully horrible. The jokes are sometimes off-color and offensive, ok, all of the jokes are offensive and off-color. But the jokes are sometimes subtle and they are the type of jokes that make you think “it’s ok to laugh at all of this, because if you can’t make fun of yourself what can you make fun of? and realizing that there really are people that think these things and the show is really making fun of them.” There are nazi allusions, a lot of sexual innuendos, and some un-p.c. knocks. I don’t know what I enjoyed so much, but it was exactly what i needed to break the skull drudgery. If you can take a joke and not think that it’s the most offensive thing in the world to poke fun at mostly everyone, don’t watch Son of the Beach. But if you’re looking for a refreshing twist to television, check out FX on tuesday nights at ten p.m.
